Introducing Clear Minds, Clear Futures.

88 Oak Impact Organization has launched Clear Minds, Clear Futures, a youth initiative that helps teenagers and young adults choose a direction, build skills and stay free of harmful substances.

The idea is simple. A young person with a clear mind makes better decisions. A young person with a clear future has good reasons to protect it. We believe the two go together, so we built one program that does both.

Why we are doing this

Many young Nigerians make big choices with very little guidance. Subjects, schools and careers are picked under pressure from friends or family, or by default. At the same time, curiosity, stress and peer pressure push too many young people toward alcohol, drugs and other harmful habits before they know the real risks.

Both problems have the same root: young people need honest information, trusted adults and a safe place to ask questions. Clear Minds, Clear Futures provides all three.

Two strands, one program.

Clear Minds covers substance abuse awareness and prevention. Participants learn the facts about common substances, why people start, how to spot warning signs in themselves and in friends, how to say no under pressure, how to cope with stress in healthy ways, and where to find confidential help. It teaches prevention and recognition. It is not a treatment programme, and anyone who needs clinical care is referred to qualified professionals.

Clear Futures covers career guidance and mentorship. Participants explore who they are, what careers fit their strengths, which education routes are open to them, and the practical skills that matter: communication, digital skills, money management and writing a CV. Every participant joins a small mentoring circle led by a trained adult, and the programme ends with a showcase where each participant presents a written action plan to parents, mentors and community leaders.

The programme runs for 12 weeks, and every weekly session combines a Clear Minds topic with a Clear Futures topic, so participants build direction and protection together. Teenagers aged 13 to 17 and young adults aged 18 to 30 meet in separate groups so the conversation fits each age.

How it works

Sessions are free, held weekly in community and church venues, and led by trained facilitators and subject matter experts (SMEs). Groups are kept small so every participant is heard. Parents and guardians sign consent for anyone under 18 and are invited to take part, including a dedicated parent session in week 8 and the showcase in week 12.

Safeguarding comes first. Facilitators and mentors are screened and trained, sessions are held in open view, and a named safeguarding officer receives any concern. What participants share stays in the group, except where someone is at risk of serious harm or the law requires a report. Nobody is labelled or shamed for asking a question or asking for help.

How you can be part of it

  • Churches and community groups: host a cohort, or invite us to present the programme to your leadership, parents and young people.
  • Parents and guardians: talk to us about enrolling your teenager or joining a parent session.
  • Professionals: share your career story, or volunteer as a mentor.
  • Counsellors and health workers: help us build a trusted referral network for young people who need more than education.
